The 2019 African Masters long jump champion, Regina Mulatya, is targeting gold as she debuts at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships to be held from March 24 to April 1 in Torun City, Poland.

Speaking to People Sports at Nyayo National Stadium where she has been training, Mulatya said she aims to make a podium finish.

“I’m aiming to get a gold medal. I trust my training which has been intensive and also I tested myself with other athletes during the Athletics Kenya Track and Field championships in the Mumias, Kisumu and Thika editions,” said African Masters triple jump gold medalist

The Kenya Prison wardress stationed at Langata Women’s Prison in Nairobi competes in the W 45 (women between the age of 45 to 49 years) category in Masters which she says will be challenging since it will be her first time to compete at the championships.

Nairobi-based runner, Mulatya said it will be challenging for her because she will be competing in the 60m long triple jump and long jump track during the six-day championships.

“The journey of my running career has been good, I am happy with the progress and I hope to do well at the World Indoors,” she added.

Head of the delegation Rose Tata will lead Team Kenya of 23 athletes to Poland and five officials.

Tata said they are optimistic that they will do well and get good results.

Tata added that the Masters’ team has represented the country in other international competitions.

“This is the fourth international championship that the Masters’ team is representing Kenya. First, it was in Parth Australia 2016, Spain Malaga 2018, 12th African Masters Athletics championship Tunisia and 13th Africa Masters Athletics championship in Nairobi.”

Team Kenya Master athletes include Joel Kimisik, Ann Miano, Joseph Some, Albert Muthee, Ruth Mwende, Shirley Kalunda, James Lang’at, Grave Wanjiru, Peter Bii, Georgina Mbinya, Vince Mumo, Robert Kibet, Eric Shikuku, Stephen Ole Marai, Kenneth Mburu, Elizabeth Muthuku, Benjamin Kimaiyo, Daniel Kimeli, William Tanui, Rebecca Kerubo, Francis Kooli. Accompanying officials are Rose Tata Muya, Stephen ole Marai, Vincent Mumo, Benjamin Kimaiyo and William Tanui.
