Snow holds nerve to win second leg of PGK Equator Tour
Muthaiga Golf Club’s finest pro golfer Greg Snow held onto his second-round lead to emerge victorious in the second leg of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour, hosted at the par-72 Limuru Country Club, with a total score of 12-under-par 276 (68, 67, 71, 70).
Snow, popularly known as “Snowman”, had pushed his score to 16-under-par after his first six holes in the fourth and final round on July 28, 2025, courtesy of an eagle at number 3 alongside birdies at holes 2, 4 and 6.
However, a bogey at number 9 and a double at number 12 set him back from surpassing the Ruiru Sports Club record of -16, set by eventual champion Daniel Nduva.
Nonetheless, Snow birdied holes 14 and 18 to recover two of the three shots he had dropped on the back nine.
After the win, Snowman told People Sports, “I thank my sponsors for having my back when I truly need them. To my family, I am grateful for your support on and off the course, and to the hosts for a wonderful job; the conditions were perfect. I teed off well today and had a good first nine, but struggled a bit crossing over to the back nine, which is part of the game. Next, I will work on my game with my coach Jonny Limb and see how I can improve heading into the next leg at the Mount Kipipiri Golf Resort.”
Greg Snow beat his closest challenger by two shots to win the title and a cash prize of Ksh201,000, while runner-up Njoroge Kibugu pocketed Ksh165,000 and third-placed Mohit Mediratta claimed Ksh112,500.
Second-placed Kibugu nearly had a bogey-free round except for a costly slip on the 12th hole that dented his scorecard with his only bogey of the day.
Kibugu birdied holes 3, 7, and 18 to wrap up his campaign at 10-under-par 278 (72, 69, 67, 70).
Kibugu told People Sports he was careful not to drop any shots in the final round and relied on solid putting to challenge his rivals.
“I was careful not to ruin my score, and I focused on how my putting could turn the game to my advantage while only one shot separated us. The course was tough, even though it was in great condition. The pin positions today were friendly yet tough to attack,” said Kibugu.
Third-placed Mohit Mediratta had relinquished his lead in the second round but did enough to finish third with 8-under-par 280 (67, 74, 71, 68) to earn a six-figure cash prize, the same figure claimed by the tied fourth duo Rodell Gaita (UG) and John Karichu, who bagged Ksh 101,250 each with a score of -7.
Edwin Mudanyi settled for sixth position at -6 on the final leaderboard after failing to gain a single shot in the final round, carding a score of 72 to beat the next tied duo of Mutahi Kibugu and Samuel Njoroge by two shots.
From the maiden leg hosted at Ruiru Sports Club over a fortnight ago, only Njoroge Kibugu, who was placed third, improved his position to second after a display of consistency.
Opening leg champion Daniel Nduva missed the cut while second-placed David Wakhu finished in a tied 18th position on the final leaderboard.
