Reigning World 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Simiu has set his sights on the Seoul Marathon, scheduled for March 16.

Fresh from winning the National Cross-Country Championships at the Eldoret Sports Club, Ebenyo extended his dominance at the Absa Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Continental Tour at Lobo Village, Eldoret.

The Iten-based runner delivered a stellar performance, clocking 29:57 to clinch the title ahead of Gideon Rono, who finished second in 30:07, while Nicholas Kimeli secured third place in 30:15.

A National Police Service officer, Ebenyo made his marathon debut at the 2023 Chicago Marathon, where he finished fifth. Now balancing between track and road races, he has confirmed his participation in next month’s Seoul Marathon, banking on his strong training regimen and preparation.

“I strongly believe I will perform well in the race and secure a podium finish. Nobody knows what tomorrow holds, so let’s focus on the present,” Ebenyo said.

The former African 5000m silver medallist endured a challenging 2023 season, missing out on the Paris Olympic Games after falling during the national trials and finishing eighth, failing to make Team Kenya.

Despite the setback, he has been in top form both locally and internationally.

In 2024, he won the Berlin Half Marathon in 59:30, adding to his achievements from the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where he claimed silver in the 10,000m.
