Shujaa, Morans cruise to Safari 7s Cup semis

Kenya’s contingent at the safari sevens, Kenya Shujaa and Kenya Moran’s have sailed through to the cup semis of the tourney after defeating Uganda Cranes and Samurai International respectively.
Shujaa led by head Coach Innocent Simiyu will face Moran’s under coach Kevin Wambua will now face off in the semis.
Tournament favourites Samurai dropped to fifth place semis alongside Uganda after being edged out by Moran’s who had a slow start on day one fought back to beat Samurai 21-17.
Samurai speedy winger Lloyd Lewis opened the scoring for Samurai after side stepping his markers to score a superb try.
However, Moran’s would respond through Austin Sikutwa after Kenyan international Augustine Lugonzo committed himself before offloading the ball to unmarked Sikutwa to score an easy try.
Mohammed Omollo would punish Samurai after a handling error by picking the ball and offloading to a charging Charles Tendwa to score, before Augustine Lugonzo slotted in the conversion over for a 14-5 lead at half-time.
Samurai would add two quick tries after the break to lead 17-14.
A resilient Moran responded in the final minutes of the game with Richard Wangila grounding on a loose ball which slipped out of a ruck near Samurai try box, Lugonzo converting it for a 21-17 win.
In the second quarter-final’s fixture, Shujaa beat Uganda 19-12 to qualify for the semis.
Edmund Anya scored first for Kenya, with Levy Amunga adding the conversion for a 7-0 lead. Shujaa could have added another one minutes later, but Amunga knocked on the ball.
Fast rising Timothy Mmasi added the second try for Shujaa after outpacing out to leave his marker to score, Amunga slotting in the conversion for a 14-0 lead at half-time.
Adrian Kasito would score a consolation try for Uganda after Levy Amunga was sent to the bin for a dangerous tackle.
Collins Shikoli extended Shujaa’s lead after collecting on a loose ball to score in the left corner to for a 19-7 scoreline.
Timothy Kasiga would score for Uganda late in the game but was not enough as Shujaa went on to win 19-12.
