Shabana vs Gor Mahia: FKF lauds fans’ behaviour before the match started

Gusii Stadium filled up early on matchday as fans streamed in from across Kisii County for the high-profile clash between Shabana FC and Gor Mahia FC, with football authorities praising the calm and orderly atmosphere witnessed at the venue.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the Football Kenya Federation thanked fans, security agencies and the teams involved in ensuring the day remained peaceful from morning.

“Thank you to the fans, teams, security agencies and organisers for a smooth and peaceful matchday at Gusii Stadium,” the statement reads.

FKF noted that supporters began arriving at the Gusii stadium as early as 8:00 am, with the venue reaching full capacity hours before kickoff, showing the strong following enjoyed by both teams. The federation went ahead to wish the teams and fans well.

“Fans began streaming in from as early as 8:00 am, and the stadium is now full. We wish both teams the very best and fans an enjoyable afternoon of football,” the statement reads.

The federation also urged fans to maintain a spirit of sportsmanship, calling for positive, respectful support throughout the match to ensure the occasion remained safe and enjoyable for everyone inside the stadium.

“Let the noise be cheers, the energy be passion, and the spirit be respect,” the statement reads.

FKF emphasised that football should remain a unifying space where everyone feels welcome, regardless of age or background.

“Football is for everyone, families, friends, and fans alike,” the statement reads.

At halftime, the contest remained finely balanced, with Shabana FC and Gor Mahia FC locked in a goalless draw, as a packed Gusii Stadium stayed on its feet awaiting a decisive second-half breakthrough.
