Shabana snatch 3 points in hard-fought victory against Bandari

By , September 28, 2025

Shabana FC continued their fine start to the 2025/26 FKF Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bandari at the Mbaraki Stadium on Sunday afternoon, September 28, 2025. The win, their second in as many matches, kept the Kisii-based outfit joint top of the standings with six points.

The decisive moment came in the second half when Shabana capitalised on their momentum to break the deadlock. The Glamour Boys defended with discipline and frustrated the Dockers, who were already without three Harambee Stars regulars, Dennis Ng’ang’a, Benjamin “Beja” Nyamawi, and Swaleh Pamba, through injury and health issues.

Bandari had gone into the game seeking their first win of the season after being held to a barren draw by Kariobangi Sharks in their opening fixture. Missing key personnel, however, left coach Kennedy Odhiambo short of options. Despite a spirited performance, especially in the closing stages, the home side could not find a way past Shabana’s resolute backline.

Shabana’s players showed grit in the late stages of the match, particularly after Bandari pushed forward during the six added minutes of stoppage time. The visitors held their nerve to protect their slim advantage until the final whistle, sparking celebrations among the travelling fans.

Shabana maintain winning momentum

The result hit on Shabana’s impressive turnaround since their disappointing Shabana Day friendly against Tanzanian side Pamba Jiji earlier this month. They bounced back strongly with a 4-2 victory over newly-promoted APS Bomet, where winger Bryan Michira stole the show with a brace. Sunday’s win against Bandari built on that momentum and underlined their intent to make a serious mark in the league this season.

After two rounds, Shabana top the league on goal difference ahead of Posta Rangers, who also boast a 100 per cent record following their 2-1 triumph over Tusker. Ulinzi Stars sit third with four points, while Gor Mahia are beginning to find rhythm after a 2-0 victory over Sofapaka, inspired by Ghanaian import Ebenezer Adukwaw.

At the other end of the table, Tusker FC are yet to pick up a point after back-to-back losses, while promoted side APS Bomet continue to struggle following consecutive defeats. Bandari, meanwhile, remain winless, with only one point from their opening two games.

For Shabana, the early signs are encouraging. The Glamour Boys have now scored five goals and conceded only twice in their opening fixtures.
