Ruto: This is our commitment to Harambee Stars

President William Ruto has said his government is committed to help Harambee Stars perform better in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Kenya, together with Uganda and Tanzania, will host the next edition and the Head of State is hopeful of seeing the national side do better.
“Our commitment to delivering a sustainable pipeline of formidable talent places us in a highly promising position with regard to future competition.
“We can look forward to a strong performance from Harambee Stars on home soil come 2027. Likewise, future Olympics and other international competitions will witness transformed Kenyan teams harvesting medals with renewed efficiency,” Ruto said during the launch of Talanta Sports City Stadium.
2027 confidence
The president is confident that 2027 will usher in a new period that will see Kenya’s teams grow into competitive set-ups.
“Evidently, AFCON 2027 is just the beginning of our nation’s endeavor to become a regional, continental, and global centre for sports development and competition.
“To get here, we are committed to investing intensively and strategically to upgrade various sports facilities, including the comprehensive renovation of the Kasarani Stadium, as well as the construction of new modern premises and amenities.
“It is our intention to make AFCON 2027 a memorable continental showpiece, and we are literally working around the clock. If you visit the Kasarani Stadium, work is underway on a 24-hour basis to ensure that
renovations are completed to a high standard by next year.
in advance of the AFCON,” he added.
Ruto also lauded the initiatives that has been undertaken by the Ministry of Sports in regard to talent search.
“Our journey to turn Kenya into a global sporting powerhouse is firmly underway.
“Under the Talanta Hela initiative, the Kenya Academy of Sports has, within its first year of implementation, assembled a vast pool of impressive talent, which has begun to feed national sporting teams, clubs, and academies with high-calibre sportsmen and women,” he continued.
The newly-launched stadium is expected to be one of the facilities to host the continental action.
