Ruto to fulfil Ksh2.5M promise to each Harambee Stars player
President William Ruto has pledged to honor his promise to Harambee Stars players following their thrilling 1-0 victory against Zambia at Kasarani on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The Head of State said the team’s remarkable progress in the tournament deserves not only recognition but also tangible rewards, affirming his earlier commitment of awarding each player Ksh2.5 million with his synonymous phrase dawa ya deni ni kulipa.

“Congratulations, Harambee Stars! You have done the nation proud, inspired immense joy, and united our country in celebration. Now, march forward and conquer the continent. Do not settle for less — just as we, as a nation, must never settle for anything less than glory.” Ruto said.
From the onset of the CHAN tournament, President Ruto reminded Kenyans that few believed the Harambee Stars could advance past the group stages. The team was placed in the so-called “Group of Death,” yet, under his watchful encouragement, they defied the odds to finish top of the group and secure a place in the quarter-finals.
