Rodgers Ouma part ways with Gor Mahia
By Luke Oluoch, August 4, 2025Gor Mahia has confirmed yet another exit from the club, with Rodgers Ouma departing the team, according to an update from the record Football Kenya Premier League champions.
The former Tusker midfielder will not be part of the Charles Akonnor team for the coming season, as he has opted to end his two-year stay with the champions.
Ouma joined the club at the start of the 2023/24 season from rivals Tusker FC. He had previously featured for the now-defunct Western Stima in the Kenyan Premier League.

“Midfielder Rodgers Ouma will be departing the club on mutual agreement. We extend our sincere thanks to Rodgers for his contributions during his time with us and wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” the club revealed in a statement.
Ouma’s exit comes almost a month after K’Ogalo announced the departures of Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango, two long-serving players, as part of a wider shake-up ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The team confirmed that neither player will be offered contract extensions. Omondi’s contract was due to end in August, while Onyango’s was set to expire in September.
As part of a rebuilding phase following a challenging 2024 season, which saw the team conclude the campaign trophyless, Gor, on Friday, August 1, 2025, unveiled former Ghana national team coach Charles Akonnor as its new head coach.

The former Black Stars skipper agreed to a two-year contract, bringing a decorated resume both as a former player and coach, having featured prominently for Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg between 1998 and 2003, making 121 appearances and scoring 13 goals.
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Akonnor from Ghana as our new Head Coach. The former Black Stars manager brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned tactician. Welcome to Mahia, Coach Akonnor,” read a post from the club’s official X account.
Backroom staff
Gor further confirmed that Akonnor will be working with the assistance of his compatriot, Kobi-Mensah Bismark, formerly with Bechem United and Great Olympics.
As part of the team’s new backroom staff, Joshua Kofi Boafo was recruited as the new video analyst, as Owu Ben joined as the new goalkeeping coach.
The medical department was also strengthened with the appointment of Brian Odongo, a sports medicine specialist, who will oversee player fitness and welfare throughout the season.
