Report reveals where and how most Kenyans watch EPL matches every weekend
A new survey by Stahili Pulse Report has shed light on how deeply the English Premier League (EPL) is woven into Kenyan weekend culture, revealing where fans gather to watch matches and the platforms they rely on most.
The weekly online survey titled ‘Mapping English Premier League (EPL) Fan Loyalty, Viewing Patterns, and Betting Habits Among Kenyans,’ conducted among 3,704 respondents across the Rift Valley, Central, Nairobi, Nyanza, Western, Eastern, Coast, and North Eastern regions, paints a clear picture of football habits across the country.
The report released on Friday, November 28, 2025, shows that, for the majority of Kenyan fans, EPL weekends are a family affair. According to the findings, 43.1 per cent of respondents said they watch matches at home with their families, making home viewing the most preferred option nationwide. For many, staying indoors provides comfort, affordability, and the chance to watch with loved ones.

However, social spaces still play a huge role in Kenyan football culture. The report indicates that 21.6 per cent of fans watch matches at a local bar, turning match days into a lively social outing filled with banter, rivalry, and shared excitement.
Another 20.9 per cent watch from social halls, which have become popular community hubs where large groups gather, often in more affordable and accessible environments.
A smaller number of respondents said they watch games at a friend’s house, while a notable segment said they do not watch the Premier League at all. Others listed alternative viewing options or mentioned watching matches while at work or school, highlighting the diverse lifestyles of fans spread across different regions.
Sources most often used to watch EPL matches
On how they access the matches, the report points to a blend of traditional broadcasting and modern digital platforms. DStv and GoTV remain the most common sources, with 42.4 per cent of fans relying on these paid TV services.
Streaming apps such as DStv Stream and Showmax are also growing rapidly, used by 26.4 per cent of respondents, reflecting Kenya’s fast adoption of internet-based viewing.

Free online streaming remains popular among younger and budget-conscious fans, with 15.9 per cent saying they use free streaming websites. Meanwhile, a significant group watches through televisions in local bars, where large screens and shared experiences amplify the entertainment.
