Quins, KCB, Oilers, Leos seal quarterfinal spots in the Prinsloo 7s
The 2025 Prinsloo 7s quarterfinal line-up is beginning to take shape after an action-packed second round of matches at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
Kenya Harlequin, KCB Rugby, Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, and hosts Nakuru RFC all booked their spots in the last eight after making it two wins from two, while Pool D was blown wide open following Mwamba RFC’s shock victory over Kabras Sugar.
Pool A: Quins and Nakuru cruise into knockouts
Kenya Harlequin confirmed their place in the quarterfinals with a 26-7 comeback win over Stallions. After going behind early, Quins rallied with tries from Jan Remke, Dave Mwaura, Ramadhan Masete, and Patrick Wainaina to seal a comfortable win.
Hosts Nakuru RFC followed suit, dispatching MSC Rugby 19-0. Javan Otieno’s first-half try gave them a slender lead before second-half scores from Joel Mboya and Chrissant Ojwang sealed progression to the knockout rounds.
Pool B: Oilers and Leos turn on the style
Menengai Oilers overwhelmed Daystar Falcons 33-5 with Denis Abukuse starring through a hat-trick. Daniel Kipchirchir also crossed the line in a dominant display that saw Oilers secure their spot in the quarters.
Strathmore Leos were equally ruthless, thrashing Zetech Oaks 38-0. Gabriel Ayimba scored twice, while Victor Mola, Shem Okola, and Nygel Amaitsa joined the try-scoring party. The defending champions have yet to concede a point in the tournament.

Pool C: Rampant KCB, Nondies held
KCB Rugby proved too strong for Kisumu RFC, running out 48-0 winners. Tries came from all angles, Floyd Wabwire, Elvis Olukusi, Vincent Onyala, Lionel Ajeliti, Tyson Maina, and Festus Shiasishowcasing the bankers’ attacking firepower.
In contrast, Nondescripts were held to a 22-22 draw by a spirited Catholic Monks side. Both teams exchanged tries in a seesaw contest, with Monks snatching a draw with a late converted effort.
Pool D: Mwamba shake things up
Mwamba RFC produced the shock of the day, upsetting Kabras Sugar 17-15. Despite trailing 10-0 early on after tries from Patrick Kluivert and Victor Otieno, Mwamba hit back through Eugene Odhiambo and Stephen Sakari to pull off a dramatic win. A yellow card to Kabras’ Jactone Osoo proved pivotal in the closing minutes.
MMUST and Impala RFC played to a 15-15 draw in the other Pool D match. MMUST took a 10-0 lead through Kevin Bukhala and Churchill Oyugi, but Impala clawed back with tries from Andrew Matoka and Derrick Kinyari, with David Nyangige converting one to level the match.
