Kenya’s representatives in the ongoing CAV Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championship, Kenya Prisons and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), opened their campaign on a losing note as the elite African competition games kicked off in Misurata, Libya

The competition’s 46th edition, saw the Kenyan teams fail to make an early statement of intent.

2024 silver medalist Prisons suffered a 3-0 set loss to Cameroon’s Port Autonome De Douala (PAD in their Group C on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

Prisons lack answers against Cameroonians who ran riot on a clean sweep of all sets with 25-20, 32-30, and 25-21 wins.

The loss leaves the prison fifth in a six-group team.

Meanwhile, Kenya Ports Authority also succumbed to defeat after coming just short in a thrilling 5-set game against APR of Rwanda on Sunday, April 20.

The Rwandese soldiers claimed the first opening two sets on a 25-20, and 25-18, to claim an early psychological edge before the Kenyan fought back to claim the two sets on identical 25-19 score line.

A 19-17 loss compounded a false start to KPA quest for an opening victory in the Pool D game.

KPA who are in Pool D lie fourth behind Al Nasser Sports Club of Egypt, Esperance Sportif of Tunisia and APR of Rwanda who all won their opening test.

Other Kenyan representatives, General Service Unit (GSU), are pooled in Group B alongside; Uganda’s Nemo Stars (NEM), DR Congo’s VC Goma Revolution (VGR), Algeria’s Club Arzew Sportif (CAS), Morocco’s Fath Union Sport (FUS) and Egypt’s Al Ahly (AHL).

The trio returns to action this Monday with Gideon Tarus’ GSU side clash off against CAS at 2:00 PM.

Prison will hope to bounce back when they lock horns with Wolaita Dicha Sports Club  OF Ethiopia, as KPA square out with  Al Nasser Sports Club of Egypt in their second group game.

Running from April 17 to 30 in Misrata, the tournament brings together 24 African clubs divided into four groups of six teams each. This 46th edition also serves as a qualification pathway to the 2025 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship, adding further incentive for the participating teams.
