With over 9.5 million tickets sold, Paris 2024 redefines Olympic success captivating fans globally

More than 9.5 million tickets were sold, with spectators from 222 different countries gracing the just-concluded 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
While the world-class performances from the athletes are done and dusted, and the world stage has closed its curtain on the Games that displayed herculean feats, heart-wrenching drama, comedic gold, and tearful tragedies, Olympics.com took a look at the key figures from the spectacular sporting show.
Record ticket sales
According to the figures, out of the 222 countries that bought tickets for the Games, 62 percent were French buyers while 38 percent were international buyers.
Among the top five international buyers were the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Belgium, and Netherlands.
Held from July 24, the Games saw 760 sessions organized in 32 Olympic sports, nearly 850 medals awarded, 85 medal-winning countries, and 42 records broken, including 10 world records and 32 Olympic records.
Rugby 7s record
The Games had record crowds and an unrivaled atmosphere, with nearly one million people taking to the streets of Paris for the men’s and women’s road cycling events. 450,000 spectators attended the beach volleyball at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, with 743,000 spectators on July 30 alone.
A new record was set in women’s rugby sevens with 66,000 spectators cheering for their teams, and 145,000 spectators visited the Carres des Supporters (French supporter blocks at the different venues).
400,000 hot dogs were sold at competition venues, including 100,000 vegetarian dogs.
There were 2.4 billion views on Paris 2024 social platforms and 24.4 million viewers watched the opening ceremony on France Télévisions.
The Games were celebrated all over Paris and France with six million visitors to celebration sites, more than 3.8 million visitors to ‘Clubs 2024’ across France (as of 09/08), a total of 213,000 visitors at the Champions Park (as of 09/08), a new concept that was a first in the history of the Summer Olympic Games, 200,000 reservations to visit the Olympic Cauldron in the Tuileries Gardens, a total of 1 million visitors to the Nations Park in La Villette (as of 09/08), and more than 6,000 activities listed on the Carte des Jeux.
Village life
Meanwhile, life in the Olympic Village saw 11,804 athletes at peak occupancy on August 3, 150 hairdresser and manicure appointments every day, 4,000 pastries, 600 baguettes, and 3,000 muffins served daily, and 90 people working at peak hours in the Village laundry service.
There were seven wedding proposals made during the Games, including a double proposal in Marseille following the sailing events, while more than 180,000 people worked directly for the Games between 2017 and 2024, with over 2,000 contracted companies.
In total, there were 4,200 Paris 2024 employees and 45,000 volunteers.
More than 4,600 local authorities were awarded the “Terre de Jeux 2024” label, 2,500 projects and events received the Cultural Olympiad label, more than 40,000 race bibs were distributed for the Marathon for.
All, more than 200 ‘Clubs 2024’ were established throughout France, 10,000 Olympic torchbearers participated, 1,000 Paralympic torchbearers were involved, and eight million spectators lined the Torch Relay route.
