Ouma, Abuya on collision course as Singida Black Stars and Yanga SC clash

Kenyan and Young Africans midfielder Duke Abuya will be out to claim a season double when his Tanzanian club faces Singida Black Stars on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the CRDB Federation Cup final.

Abuya, straight from winning the league title with Yanga on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, will be hoping to get one over on Black Stars, coached by Kenyan trainer David Ouma.

The former Harambee Starlets trainer seeks to make history with the club, eyeing its first major trophy in the domestic encounter.

Ouma, who joined the club at the start of February 2025, mustered a turnaround of form with the outfit, which he hopes culminates with a victory over the newly crowned Premier League champions.

The Kenyan trainer in his first season aims to become the first coach to lead the club to a maiden trophy in the country’s top-flight league.

He led the club to a major final following their Singida Black Stars 3-1 win over rivals Simba SC in the semifinal of the Cup on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

The feat added to his success as he also led the team to qualification in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup in the same month.

Motivated

Speaking ahead of the clash, Ouma said the team has done its preparations and is ready for what he termed will be a tough test for his charges.

“We have our objectives, and we are psyched up for the clash. It is the motivation that has pushed us for the season in every game we have played. Tomorrow, we have a good but tough game in the final. We have adequately prepared for it,” he told the club media site.

Abuya’s Young Africans head into the clash on a superior record and as favourites.

They have not lost a game in the competition since their 2-1 defeat to Simba in the 2021 finals.

The club also boasts the most FA Cup finals appearances, with six trophies won, three ahead of Simba and Mtibwa Sugar, who have won the trophy twice.

The clash will be staged in Zanzibar’s Amaan Complex starting at 8:20 pm.
