Africa’s king of 100m Ferdinand Omanyala is looking forward to running under 10 seconds when he emerges from the tunnel of the National Stadium in Gaborone during the FNB Botswana Continental Tour this Saturday. What is far more important in the overall ledger is that the Kenyan sprint sensation has already opened his account in various build-up races going into the busy 2023 athletics indoor calendar that seems to have so much in store.

Omanyala set the African record over the distance when he ran superbly in 2021 in Nairobi, crossing the finish line in 9.77. A lot has happened to the Kenyan since his record breaking race but something to savor is that he is now a Commonwealth Games champion. His renewed dream is to attempt to push himself to achieve his desire to clock sub-10 seconds.

That attempt will once again be on test at the Botswana Continental Tour when Omanyala lines up for another spectacular race that will include 2022 World Athletics silver medalists Marvin Bracy.

The American clocked 9.88 seconds to bag silver medal on home soil last year during the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.

Omanyala, 27, landed in Gaborone Botswana on Sunday evening, equipped for the Saturday battle.

The African champion says that the high level competition in the 100m showdown could shove him to reach his time goal.

“I am in good shape since my preparations have been well and continuing.
