Omanyala in a class of his own as National Championships begin
Africa’s fastest runner Ferdinand Omanyala had a great race yesterday at the ongoing National Championships at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Omanyala, 27, sprinted to cross the finish line in a time of 10.09, easily beating the rest of the competitors.
During a post-race interview, the Commonwealth Games champion revealed that he was expecting a slower time and he has promised a thrilling show in the final.
The competition was his first competitive race after his Diamond League tour which saw him finish third in Rabat and second in Florence and Paris.
“The race was good and my body feels good. I wasn’t expecting a fast race today and I can say I’m impressed.
The most important thing for me was to win the heats. I didn’t set any targets this weekend but I can promise a sub-10 performance in the final,” he said. “I want to win a gold for Kenya Police, that’s my main goal. However, if I record fast times, I’ll be glad,” he added. -David Ndolo
