Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga kicked off his stint with new club Al Arabi after joining the team’s preseason on Saturday, July 5, 2025, barely hours after his move to the Qatari giants.

Olunga was pictured with his new teammates in the team’s preseason hours as he joined a star-studded squad on the team list.

This comes after the club on Saturday, July 5, 2025, confirmed the Harambee Stars striker and skipper had joined the club on a two-year deal after departing from Al Duhail SC, where he emerged as the club’s all-time top scorer.

Italian international Marco Veratti, formerly with PSG; Pablo Sarabia of Wolverhampton Wanderers; Abdou Diallo of PSG; and Ivorian international Rodrigo Sanchez, who featured for both Barcelona and Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga, are among the star players now playing in the Qatari Soccer League with the club.

Founded in 1952, the capital-based club is the most prominent football team that plays its home matches at the 44,400-seater Al Thumama stadium.

At Al Arabi, Olunga will be expected to bring his experience, leadership, and goal-scoring prowess to help the club challenge for top honours. Al Arabi, one of Qatar’s most historic football clubs, is hoping that Olunga’s arrival will strengthen their attacking options and inspire a strong league campaign.

Since arriving in Doha from Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol in January 2021, Olunga has netted an incredible 130 goals, becoming a fan favourite and a key figure in the club’s domestic and continental campaigns.

Al Duhail SC stint

He made his mark at his previous club, Al Duhail, winning several major honours, including Qatar Stars League titles and multiple cup trophies.

His most telling contribution, however, was his rich vein of goal-scoring form that saw him enter the club’s folklore as the team’s all-time top scorer.

The Kenyan will now be coached by Pablo Amo Aguado, a retired Spanish footballer who played as a central defender mainly with Deportivo La Coruna.
