Oliech’s SOS call to Ruto
By Benson Mbare, September 7, 2022
Former Harambee Stars legend Dennis Oliech has called on the new set of leadership under President-Elect William Ruto to urgently sort out the mess created by the Transitional Committee set in place by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.
Oliech who scored 34 goals for national football team Harambee Stars from 76 caps, said the current talented crop of players plying their trade in the local league are quickly shifting their allegiance to lower leagues in the neighbouring countries due to the problems brought about by the committee and by extension the indefinate suspension by world football governing body Fifa after the CS disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) led by its boss Nick Mwendwa for allegations of misuse of funds.
“With the current crop of our talented players leaving the country to other lower leagues than ours in neighbouring countries, my prayer to the new regime is for them to find time urgently and look into the mess created by the Transitional Committee formed by CS Amina,” Oliech who has had stints with French Ligue 1 sides AJ Auxerre, Nantes and Ajaccio.
The FKF Transition Committee recently postponed the restart of the new football season that was expected to kick-off on September 10, pushing forward the start of the new season by a further two weeks.
This is the third time that the season kick-off date has been pushed, and the Committee communicated to clubs that the season will now start on September 24, and not this weekend as earlier said.
It remains unclear whether the league will start under the dispensation of the Transition Committee with a new Government set to be sworn into office on Tuesday next week.
AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussemes has since castigated the move by the committee, saying it was a lack of respect for his job as a professional coach given his preparations ahead of the new season.
“It’s a lack of respect for my job as a professional coach. We play and train according to the dates given, but now they have said we will have to wait for two more weeks. Maybe some coaches don’t care, but for me, I plan as a professional coach,” the tactician said.
Aussem’s who returned to head his side after settling issues over pending allowances with the management will be seeking to guide Ingwe to a positive start.
Leopards finished fifth last season and will be aiming to improve on this performance.
