Nondies take charge of Championship league as
giants Impala falter again

By , December 6, 2022

The second round of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship League saw Nondies complete another good day in office after they comfortably bagged the only away win of the weekend, after thrashing USIU Marshalls 42-3, while fellow former Kenya Cup side Impala Saracens was upset by a 33-20 loss to Daystar Falcons.

The two former immediate top league teams are now wide apart on the league standings where Nondies enjoy a 10 points lead thanks to two out of two bonus wins while Impala is at the bottom of the table. After their second successive loss without a losing bonus, the USIU Marshalls joined Impala in the relegation zone as well.

Shocking defeat

It was the second time in a row Impala Saracens suffered a shocking defeat to a Varsity side when Daystar Falcons taught them a lesson, just a week after Zetech Oaks opened the wound at the Impala grounds, where the hosts could only salvage a losing bonus that separates them from bottom placed USIU Marshalls while 10th placed Shamas round one losing bonus was enough to keep them ahead of the Sarries.

The Championship top four are yet to taste a loss as the season is headed to the third round this weekend where hosts will be keen to take advantage of their odds as observed in the second round where only Nondies was the disrespectful visitor while all other hosts won.

Second, on the log is Kisumu RFC with 8 points while varsity sides KabarakUniversity and the University of Eldoret are third and fourth with eight and six points respectively. Kisumu RFC led by coach Lawrence Buyachi secured a comfortable 30-5 win over South Coast Pirates at home but failed to secure a winning bonus courtesy of scoring three tries in a match their opponent who featured in last season’s semi-finals could only score a single try.

Joining the two in the top four is the University of Eldoret who dismissed Shamas 15-6 to add to their last weekend’s two points bagged from a stalemate with Western Bulls.
