Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has explained what he expects from the 2024 Safari Rally campaign that will be held between March 28 and 31.

Namwamba said he hopes to see this year’s edition help propel the set targets of the current government, especially in improving the economic status of the citizens.

“We want to see a rally that is making a difference in the lives of the people of Kenya.

“We want to transform the lives of the people of Kenya from the very bottom of the socio-economic pyramid, and that is why we have interventions like the Hustler Bazaar to ensure that the big money trickles down to the pockets of Kenyan people,” Namwamba said.

Planting trees to fight climate change is another major goal of the government, and the CS hopes that his docket can help that be achieved through the Safari Rally action.

“The green agenda for this rally is important. We have several targets to continue the legacy of environmental conservation.

“We are glad to confirm that we started a program to green the spectator stage in Kasarani. We have planted about 60,000 trees already, and we aim higher,” he added.

Foreign dominance

In recent times, the competition has been dominated by foreign drivers, but Namwamba wants to see that change.

“We do not want to have a rally that is foreigners-dominated where we have the foreign drivers flying in, spending three days with us, and then flying out, and that is the end of it.

“We want to get back to those days when Kenyan drivers competed well,” the former Budalangi Member of Parliament added.
