Naivasha to host the Kenya Air Force Commander’s Cup this weekend
Picturesque Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort will play host to the Kenya Air Force Commander’s Cup this weekend.
Saturday’s tournament powered by KCB is expected to attract 170 top amateur golfers who will compete at the 18-hole course in the much-awaited tourney.
Two top teams will also book a place in November’s grand finale to join 10 other teams that have already secured their places in the final showdown.
The latest entries were Kericho Club Captain Ignatius Kiptoo, Chris Birgen, Raymond Keter and Erastus Orina, Richard Korir, Onesmus Maritim, Kipkirui Langat and John Sang.
KCB Group Director Marketing and Communication Rosalind Gichuru said: “KCB’s involvement in golf has been aimed at elevating the sport to elite levels and giving an opportunity to budding golfers to hone their skills. Through the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, we have provided an excellent platform for over 1,000 golfers who have competed at the various amazing courses this country has. We look forward to an exciting tournament over the weekend.”
The series has so far traversed 6 counties reaching over 12, 000 participants and over 600 juniors and ladies who take part in the clinics that run concurrently with the tour.
“We are more than happy to be part of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour. Through the commander’s cup, we are expecting a competitive tournament as two top teams from the Air Force book a slot in the grand finale. We are also looking forward to good weather that will play a huge role in the tourney’s success,” noted Kenya Air Force Captain Brian Tororei.
The 13th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour will then head to Kitale Golf Club on September 23. Meanwhile, the DP World Tour, Nedbank and Sun International has announced an extended agreement which will see the Nedbank Golf Challenge played in honour of Gary Player for the next three years.
This year’s edition of ‘Africa’s Major’ will be the penultimate event on the 2023 Race to Dubai before the tournament returns to its traditional December date in 2024- forming part of the 2025 Race to Dubai – where it will remain for the following two years as part of today’s agreement.
South African legend Gary Player has been associated with the event since its formation in 1981, when he was part of a five-man field for its inaugural staging, and the event will, from the 2025 season, be officially held in honour of the nine-time Major Cham
