Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja yesterday said that the county would spend Sh 600m to refurbish the iconic City Stadium which will then be called the Joe Kadenge Stadium. Making the announcement during a groundbreaking ceremony at the facility yesterday, Sakaja also promised Nairobi County residents that other estate fields will be catered for as well.

“Our young men and women have ventured into vices because of our neglect to sporting Infrastructures within the County. It is now our responsibility to fix that mess and it starts here with Joe Kadenge Stadium. The County will have to part with Sh 600 million for this project,” Sakaja said.

The County has contracted Total Sports Empire for the job and company owner Jamal Ibrahim has said that he will take 18 months to complete the job.

“We are going to do this in three phases with each phase taking six months to complete. Our main concern will be the drainage, then the turf and the fence,” said Ibrahim.
