Mwendwa, Wanyama win Kenya Open Chess contest

The prestigious Kenya Open Chess Championship has former champion Harold Wanyama and Triza Mwendwa as the new and 2022 champions.

Wanyama from Uganda and Mwendwa from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) had assertive performances to floor other over 200 participants from the host Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Malawi and Lesotho to win the titles and prize money.

Wanyama now a three-time championship winner (2012, 2018, 2022), took home Sh120,000 for winning in the Open section, while Mwendwa (first timer) went home with Sh80,000 after scooping the Ladies’ section title.
