By , August 2, 2025

The 2025 Prinsloo Sevens kicked off in thrilling fashion in Nakuru on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with top sides in the women’s category making bold opening statements. Fans were treated to a mix of dominant wins and closely fought battles, signalling a highly competitive leg of the National Sevens Circuit.

Mwamba RFC produced the standout performance of the day, thrashing NYS Ladies 43-5 in a one-sided affair. Mwamba’s pace, structure, and clinical finishing left NYS with little room to respond. Despite a consolation try, NYS were thoroughly outplayed.

Kenya Harlequins also impressed, cruising to a 28-0 win over Kisii Polytechnic. The Quins showcased excellent organisation, both defensively and in attack, as they maintained control from start to finish without conceding a single point.

Nakuru, Impala seal wins

Impala RFC opened their campaign with a 24-5 victory over Ruck It Rugby. The Ngong Road side showed calm composure and discipline, using their experience to pull away in the second half after a closely contested opening few minutes.

The most dramatic fixture came as Nakuru RFC edged Northern Suburbs 15-12 in a thrilling encounter. Playing on home turf, Nakuru had to dig deep to contain a determined Suburbs outfit. With the match going down to the wire, a defensive stand secured the win for the Nakuru side.

The wins for Mwamba, Harlequins, Impala and Nakuru put them in strong positions heading into the knockout stages of the competition, with momentum firmly on their side. The action continues on Sunday, where the teams will battle it out for a place in the final.

This year’s women’s competition at the Prinsloo 7s has already highlighted the growing depth and talent in the game. With stakes high in the national circuit, fans can expect more drama, skill, and surprises as the tournament unfolds.

The Prinsloo 7s is the second leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit, following the Driftwood 7s.
