Musonye urges CAF to allow full Kasarani turnout with stricter security
Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chair for CHAN 2024, Nicholas Musonye, has urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to be flexible and allow a full turnout at Kasarani Stadium, assuring that Kenya has enhanced security measures to handle large crowds.
Speaking during a talk show today aired by a local television station on Monday, August 18, 2025, Musonye said that the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was already in discussions with CAF to ensure that fans are not locked out of matches at a time when national excitement is at an all-time high.
“FKF is talking to CAF so that we don’t limit our fans from attending the matches. CAF should be reasonable enough because people are getting excited every day as we move forward to these other matches,” Musonye stated.
He stressed that crowd management during the last match showed Kenya is capable of safely handling a full stadium. He pointed to the heavy deployment of security officers and coordinated planning as evidence that incidents of fans forcing their way into the stadium without tickets can be controlled.
“We are asking them if what you saw yesterday is good enough that, with good planning, we can mitigate against the problem of fans getting into the stadium without paying. Yesterday we did well. We had a serious deployment of police. Going by the planning we had, we did well,” Musonye said.

The LOC chair emphasised that a fully packed Kasarani would not only create a thrilling atmosphere for the players but also showcase Kenya’s readiness to host continental tournaments successfully. He urged CAF to consider the fans’ passion as a key element of the tournament’s success.
“We are asking CAF to be fair enough so that Kasarani will be filled as before, but we will enhance security,” Musonye affirmed.
At the same time, Musonye appealed directly to fans to respect ticketing regulations and avoid attempting to gain access without valid entry passes. He warned that those without tickets should instead use alternative viewing spaces.
“I appeal to people, if you don’t have a ticket, don’t come to the stadium, go to the fans’ zones. We may do fans’ sources across the country,” he said.
Musonye’s remarks come as Kenya continues to rally behind Harambee Stars following their strong performances, with demand for tickets soaring. His call underscores a balancing act between ensuring safety and giving Kenyans the chance to turn out in large numbers to support their team.
