Murkomen, Duale lead Kenyans in celebrating Kipruto for securing bronze medal at Olympics

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and his Environment counterpart Aden Duale have led Kenyans in celebrating Benson Kipruto for securing bronze in the men’s marathon at the Paris Olympic Games.

The two CSs who were recently sworn in, have congratulated Kipruto for bagging the much-needed medal for the country.

Murkomen on Kipruto’s win

Murkomen in a statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, August 10, 2024, termed the 2024 Olympic Games as one of the toughest marathon courses in the games’ history.

Murkomen also congratulated Kipruto’s teammates Alexander Mutiso and Eliud Kipchoge for their effort in the marathon that kicked off at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

“Congratulations, Benson Kipruto, on bringing home the Olympic bronze medal in one of the toughest marathon courses in the Games’ history.

“Great team effort from Alexander Mutiso and the Greatest of All Time, Eliud Kipchoge. It was a brutal race, but you guys gave it everything you had, blood and sweat. The nation is proud of you. Keep the Kenyan flag flying. We shall be back!” Murkomen stated.

Duale on Kipruto’s bronze win

Duale in his congratulatory message to Kipruto said that Kenya celebrates and treasures his remarkable accomplishment.

“Kudos to Benson Kipruto for the podium finish, securing the Bronze in the Paris Olympics Men’s Marathon. We celebrate and treasure your remarkable accomplishment!” Duale said.

Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa joined the two Cabinet Secretaries in congratulating Kipruto.

“Congratulations, Benson Kipruto, on bringing home the Olympic bronze medal in the #OlimpiadasParis2024 ! Congratulations,” Barasa stated.

Several other netizens have also flocked to social media platforms to congratulate Kipruto, who is currently among the top trends on X.

Kipruto clocks 2:07:00

Kipruto finished third in the tough marathon that saw Kenyan legend Eliud Kipchoge get dethroned by Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola who clocked 2:06:26 to secure a gold medal for his country.

Kipruto clocked 2:07:00 to secure bronze.

Tola was followed closely by Belgium’s Bashir Abdi who took silver, improving on his bronze from Tokyo.

After 10 kilometres, Kipruto who is the fastest marathoner in the world this year, was leading the pack before Tola took charge of the race.

The top three exchanged the lead until the final stretch where Tola sprinted out to scoop the Olympic gold.
