Nairobi County’s Head of Customer Care Department, Geoffrey Mosiria, has hailed Kenyan darts player David Munyua for his historic performance at the 2026 Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship in London, describing his achievement as inspiring and a moment that has brought pride to the entire nation.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Friday, December 19, 2025, Mosiria said that Munyua’s performance was not only a personal triumph but also a remarkable display of courage and resilience that has captured the attention of sports fans around the world.

“I have just replayed that video of David Munyua at the World Darts Championship in London, and I must say he not only made Kenya proud, but he also shocked the darts world with his fearless comeback and incredible performance,” Mosiria wrote.

He emphasised how Munyua’s determination and skill were evident in every moment of the match. He went on to highlight the difficulty of Munyua’s achievement, noting that coming from a two-set deficit to beat a top-ranked player in his very first appearance at the World Championship demonstrated extraordinary focus and mental strength.

Mosiria also drew attention to the remarkable balance Munyua has maintained between his professional life and sporting ambitions.

“From balancing life as a full-time veterinarian to becoming the first Kenyan to win a match at the World Darts Championship, his journey is nothing short of legendary,” he said, underlining the dedication and discipline required to excel in both his career and the sport.

Mosiria also praised the wider impact of Munyua’s accomplishment, noting that it had the power to inspire others across Kenya and beyond.

“His courage, resilience, and passion have given hope to aspiring athletes in Kenya, Africa, and beyond. We are absolutely proud of him,” he added, stressing that Munyua’s success is a source of motivation for young athletes who dream of competing at the highest level.

Munyua, a 30-year-old veterinarian from Murang’a County, made history on December 18, 2025, at Alexandra Palace in London when he became the first Kenyan to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship, defeating Belgian world number 18 Mike De Decker 3–2 after coming from behind in a dramatic turnaround.

The victory was particularly notable because Munyua fell behind two sets early in the match, but he managed to rally impressively, winning the third and fourth sets before claiming the decisive fifth set with a composed and precise finish.

The Kenyan had qualified for the World Championship by winning the African Darts Group Championship, which earned him the opportunity to compete on the international stage against some of the world’s best players.

The historic win has also been recognised by President William Ruto, who congratulated Munyua and described his victory as one of the most memorable moments of the tournament, while urging Kenyans to continue supporting him as he prepares for the next round.
