Bandari FC coach Anthony Modo Kimani says the club must invest wisely if they are to challenge for top honors next season. 

A 1-0 loss to Police FC on Sunday did not do much harm as the dockers finished third on the log behind champions Tusker FC and Kakamega Homeboyz. 

The dull affair played at the Nyayo stadium was settled through a late goal by Kenya International Duke Abuya who cut in from the left flank to slot home the winner.

Modo admits that the squad is aging and a quick revamp will not only help the team in the long run but also challenge for the league title next season.

The former AFC Leopards and Mathare United captain took over reins at Bandari in March 2022 and went ahead to steer the team to three wins in a row thereby instilling the much needed confidence after a huge slump that saw Rwandese coach Andre Cassa Mbungo fired.

A loss to a Police side was not really what he had anticipated but he said that the lessons learnt will go a long way to helping the team in future.

“This is not how we wanted to end the league, we have had a good run for the better part of the second leg. We were really really hoping to end the season strongly and I think we could have earned a draw from this,”he said.

“I would say generally the whole team needs injection of new blood and when i say the entire team i mean the forwardline, our midfield, our defense, I think we need a few different qualities that can give us different dynamics when we want to approach different matches.”

“We will sit down with the management, we have already identified a few players and if all goes well we try get their signatures and hopefully improve the whole unit,” he told People Daily.

Modo has also been linked with a move away from the club and he did not confirm or deny the latest rumors,” It is a conversation that is still going on and i don’t want to divulge about that but we are discussing about my future and the future of the club, hopefully all goes well.”

The 2021 season has been full of ups and downs. In November 2021, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was disbanded by the government of Kenya and a caretaker committee was installed to run football in the country. The confusion during this period has seen many clubs dish out walkovers and cases of match fixing ruling the airwaves. The Bandari coach, Kimani, who has played a major role in Kenyan football wants better management and dedication from all interested parties if football is to go back to ‘the right hands.

“We have to ensure that there is better management from the top trickling down to the clubs. We don’t want to witness again the scenarios from this season. It has been very very long since i heard an FKF Premier League side giving a walkover so hopefully everybody will give their bit and next season we won’t be able to see such things happen again,” Modo added

A bad run in form between January and March this year saw the coastal side fire Andre Cassa Mbungo thereby elevating his assistant to the managerial position. The two had previously worked together at AFC Leopards for two seasons before moving to Mombasa where they took over reigns at Mbaraki. The dockers finished third in the league with 54 points, nine behind eventual winners Tusker FC. The brewers retained the title after piping Kakamega Homeboyz on goal difference.
