Migori Youth, Wazito fail to claim advantage after draw in playoffs showdown
Migori Youth and Wazito FC are set for an epic Football Kenya Federation Premier League promotion playoff showdown in the return leg after the first leg ended in a 0-0 draw at Migori Stadium on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Meanwhile, Wazito almost scored in the 13th minute, but Collins Neto was denied by Victor Kamungo, in Migori Youth’s goal, who pulled off a superb save. Wazito created the chance following a counter-attack down the left flank, but they could not find the back of the net and consequently break the deadlock.
More chances
The National Super League side almost found the opener in the 31st minute when Lucky Musyoki found Kevin Haggai with a pinpoint pass, but the latter, despite being in a better position to score, sent his effort above the crossbar.
Another chance for the hosts came in the 67th minute, but they were denied by Wazito’s goalkeeper, Tom Muthomi. Collins Akite and Fredrick Onyango combined well in the midfield as they made their way into the Migori Youth’s box, but Onyango was unlucky as his effort was stopped by the Wazito shot-stopper.
Goalmouth melee
There was some confusion in the Migori Youth goal area, and that almost handed Wazito a chance to score the opening goal. Erick Juma, who came on in the second half, failed to take advantage of the confusion to put his side in front as he sent his shot wide.
The goalless draw in Migori means the winner of the promotion ticket will be decided in the second leg set to be played at Muhoroni Stadium on Saturday, July 22.

According to the rules governing promotion and relegation playoffs, if there is a tie on aggregate after the end of regular time in the second leg, the team with the most away goals shall be declared the winner of the match.
And if Wazito and Migori Youth are tied on aggregate and on the away goals rule, the match shall proceed to penalties, and the winner of the spot kicks will be promoted to the Premier League.
Migori Youth are looking for a chance to win their maiden ticket to the Premier League, while Wazito hope to weather the storm and remain in the top tier.
