Menengai Oilers player dies after being stabbed by unknown gang
Menengai Oilers are mourning the death of centre Anthony Kibet who was stabbed in an attack by unknown assailants.
Kibet died as a result of stab wounds, while his teammate Ibrahim Bobo, who had accompanied him, is in the hospital.
Attacked after a match
The club stated that the two were returning home after watching a football game when they were ambushed by a gang of unknown Boda Boda riders.
“Menengai Oilers Rugby Club would like to report that one of our players has succumbed to stab wounds following an attack by unknown assailants last night,” Oilers announced on Sunday.

“The player was in the company of another, who is now receiving medical attention at a local hospital, were en route home from watching a soccer match when it is said the Boda Boda gang dramatically accosted and stabbed them several times,” the statement adds.
The club says Bobo who was hospitalized following the incident is in stable condition.
“We would like to report that the injured player is in stable condition and cooperating with the police to provide any information that would help establish the motive of the attack and lead to the arrest of the unknown persons involved,” the statement said.
Motive not known
“The incident that happened yesterday has left both the Club management and other players baffled as the motive of the attack by a suspected thug running on a motorcycle is yet to be known.”
“The Police are investigating the attack and will release a full report in due course,” the statement concludes.
The club is expected to provide more information concerning the death of Kibet.
Kibet won the National Sevens Circuit with Menengai Oilers.
