Mathias Kigonya is expected have his medicals with Sofapaka and he is set for FKF Premier League return.

It will be his second stint with Sofapaka FC having played for the side from January 2016 to September 2018.

The keeper left the club with six months remaining to his contract and joined Kakamega Homeboyz on a one-year-deal.

Long term deal

The club has announced that the keeper will sign a long term deal after his stay with Azam came to an end, making him a free agent.

He will join the side alongside Davis Kasiyre who is expected to join the club from Ugandan side Kampala City Authority Football Club.

“Sofapaka Football Club can confirm that in a bid to boost the squad, the club is in talks with Ugandan internationals Davis Kasiyre and Mathias Kigonya, formerly with KCCA of Uganda and Azam FC of Tanzania, who are now free agents. The duo are expected in the country today afternoon for a medical test, after which they are expected to agree to sign a long-term contract with the club,” the club announced.

The club has signed midfielder Kevin Okoth from Tusker FC. The former Western Stima player has penned down a long term deal with the 2009 Premier League Champions.

“We are glad to have agreed a deal with Kevin Okoth. Okoth, formerly with Tusker Football Club, will join the team on a long-term deal. He is expected to boost our midfield depth ahead of the new season,” the club stated.

Other players that have joined the side include midfielder Raphael Okeyo Asudi, striker Baron Oketch and former Migori Youth duo Ben Stanley and Lucky Musyoka.

The club has also boosted the technical bench with Paul Ogai joining the club as an assistant coach and David Okello returning to the club as the goalkeeping coach.
