Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) women’s premier league side Mathare United Women is eyeing a return to the winning ways after yet another good showing over the weekend.

Speaking to People Sport, Mathare United Women coach Ann Aluoch said that if they maintain the same momentum, then their plans to return to the top tier league are achievable.

At the weekend, Mathare beat 1-0 courtesy of Immaculate Awour’s sumptuous goal to maintain their lead in Zone A with 24 points after playing 11 games. Coach Aluoch said her next step in management will be a return to the Premier League.

“I pray that the girls keep the momentum and we will back to the premier league,” Aluoch said.

Second-placed Kibra Soccer Girls kept breathing on Mathare’s neck after thumping Mukuru Talent 4-0.

Uweza Women FC also had a good weekend, beating Ukunda Starlets 2-0 with Mercy Mwachi and Mildred Manyisi scoring for the winners.

League leaders

In Zone B, giant killers Bungoma Queens stunned league leaders Solasa Stima Queens by beating them 4-0. Catherine Khaemba scored a brace and Zared Timona and Juliet Mukhekhe scored as well.

“It was a very nice game. Both teams worked their best but I managed to beat them after employing new tactics which I had perfected during week-long training sessions. We are confident that we need to break the history of the other teams that stayed in Division One for almost two years to be promoted but our dream is to play Kenya Women Premier League next year,” Bungoma Queens coach Jairus Misiko told People Sport.
