Ready for the game

Speaking on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Harambee Stars midfielder Austin Odhiambo, who is Kenya’s top scorer with a couple of goals from the opening two games, emphasised that a victory against Zambia would greatly boost their confidence as they approach the knockout stages of the competition.

Odhiambo also praised the vital support from Kenyan fans, who have shown up in large numbers, noting that the nation’s unity during this significant football event has helped propel the national team to impressive results.

“As a player, I have known the importance of fans. They truly mean a lot to football, and they are an integral part of the game. I feel for the first time the whole country has come together, making it easier for us to get the results on the pitch,” he added.

Crucial Zambia test

The Sunday, August 17, 2025, encounter carries high stakes for Kenya as a win would secure Harambee Stars the top spot in Group A and allow them to retain their hosting rights at Kasarani for the next round.

In a previous interview, Head Coach Benni McCarthy emphasised the significance of the fixture, insisting that his team must finish the group stage strongly.

“Tomorrow is a must-win game. We know that we have already qualified, but we are looking to finish off the campaign on a high to prove it has not been a fluke. I always tell the players, in order to be the best, you have to beat the best,” McCarthy stated.
