Harry Maguire has confirmed he will miss Euro 2024 after failing to recover from injury in time.

England had earlier revealed Maguire had been following an individual training plan in an attempt to prove his fitness after suffering a calf injury in April.

The Manchester United defender missed the last five matches of his club’s season.

Maguire played in all eight of England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.

He announced the news on social media and said he is “devastated” to have not made the final selection.

Maguire said he maybe pushed himself “too hard” to be fit.

It comes after James Maddison and Curtis Jones were the first players to be cut from Gareth Southgate’s group ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Maddison said he was “devastated” to be released after thinking he could “bring something different” to the team in Germany.

Southgate picked a provisional 33-man training group, but seven players must be dropped by 11pm on Friday, when a final squad of 26 players must be submitted for the tournament.

Jack Grealish will reportedly miss out on a place.

He faced a struggle for game-time as Manchester City retained the Premier League title and he did not feature in their final four matches of the season.

He came off the bench during England’s friendly win against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday.

England begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on June 16, ahead of further group stage matches against Denmark and Slovenia on June 20 and June 25 respectively.
