Nakuru County Police team were “gunned down” by Boda Boda operators in post-match penalties after an entertaining 1-1 draw in the inaugural Community Partnership Cup match held at the ASK showground on Saturday.

The Boda Boda team stole the show from the spot-kick with their keeper Stephen Otieno (Chui) coming to the rescue, denying the police twice.

Police failed to “arrest” the riders after leading for the better part of the first and second half with their frontline squandering chances to kill the game amid the heavy rain.

The match ended 1-1 in normal time thus requiring a shootout to decide the winner and the last kicker, Boda Boda’s Wayne Ombui, calmly converted in sudden death to secure the Community Partnership Cup, a first of its kind.

The results sent the team and its supporters into a frenzy filling the ground in jubilation, singing ‘we have disarmed the police’.

After the match Nakuru  County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri awarded the Boda Boda team with a trophy with a Sh 5,000 cash price for the tournament.

She said the purpose of organising such a tournament was to be able to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.
