Kenyatta University’s football team, Hard Nuts, suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Spain’s Ramon Llull University in their final match, ending their run in the global tournament at the Jinjiang Economic Development Zone Stadium in China yesterday morning.

Despite a valiant effort, Patrick Lumumba’s lone goal for the Kenyan side was not enough to match the tactical prowess of the Spanish opponents.

However, in previous encounters, the Hard Nuts displayed strong determination by showcasing their resilience on the field.

In another closely fought battle, the Hard Nuts faced a challenging 1-0 loss against the reigning champions, University of the Republic, from Uruguay, in an intense clash under the vibrant floodlights last Friday.

Despite a strong start, their hopes were dashed by the impenetrable Uruguayan defense.
Following this defeat, the team squared off against Argentina’s University de la Matanza, who also suffered a loss to Spain’s Ramon Llull University, vying for the fifth and sixth positions.

In spite of setbacks, the Kenyan squad demonstrated resilience, bouncing back with a resounding 3-1 victory over the Argentinian university, securing a notable position within the top rankings.

While dominating the play, the team’s missed opportunities, including four clear chances by Joshua Nyabuti, prevented them from securing a more decisive victory.

Speaking exclusively with People Sport, Kenyatta University head coach Tobias “Jua Kali” Ocholla, observed, “The scoreline would have been bigger. Overall, it was the best performance out of the previous three.”

Meanwhile, in their second match against Paulista University (Brazil), last week, KU Hard Nuts delivered another outstanding performance, yet the elusive goal remained just out of reach. Despite a valiant effort, a quick 12-minute goal against them put the Hard Nuts on the back foot.

However, their defence stood firm, even saving a penalty in the first half. Though they created numerous opportunities, including two promising chances before halftime, the elusive breakthrough continued to evade the Kenyan side.

With the start of the second half, KU Hard Nuts dominated possession and mounted relentless attacks, creating an additional five scoring opportunities, yet still unable to convert.
They – Kenyatta University team – are expected to return to the country tomorrow morning.
