Volleyball showdown: KPA, Trailblazers face off in National League playoffs
Three men’s teams have already booked their spots in the final four after securing wins in the KVF National League Quarters played at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
On Saturday night, Trailblazers defeated Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 23-21) in the first of their three match series. KPA would then win the second tie on Sunday, registering wins in straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-15) to deny the Trailblazers an early stab at the semifinals.
The first match pitting the two had been rescheduled to Saturday after a leaking roof at the Moi International Sports Centre indoor arena Kasarani forced the match to be abandoned with KPA leading 19-12 in the first set. The decisive tiebreaker match is planned for Monday, May 27, 2024, at 3:00pm.
Prisons out to defend KVF title
Defending champions Kenya Prisons kept their title defence dreams alive as they eased past Administration Police of Kenya (APK) 3-0 (27-25,27-25, 25-19) in the second men’s quarterfinal play-off, securing themselves a place in the semi-final. They had registered a 3-0 in the first match.
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) defeated Kenya Forest Service (KFS) 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, and 16-14) in the first quarterfinal on Saturday to secure the first semifinal berth in the men’s category. KDF had fought their way to a narrow 3-2 win over KFS in the first match on Friday.
Former Champions GSU were the third team to confirm qualification after defeating an immensely improved Equity Bank on the second day of the men’s Kenya Volleyball Federation National League play-offs at Moi International Sports Centre indoor arena in Kasarani. The General Service Unit (GSU) won 1-3 (25-22, 26-28, 18-25, 19-25).
KVF Women National League Playoffs
At the Nyayo National Stadium indoor arena, reigning national champions, KCB overcame Kenya Army in the last round of the series in a fourth-set thriller match with set victories of 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Kenya Prison beats KDF 3-0 in sets of (25-17, 25-12, 25-17) in the KVF Women’s National League Play-Offs to book a semifinal slot against Kenya Pipeline who overpowered Postbank in the return fixture clash at Nyayo National Stadium with straight sets of victories of 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-8).
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rallied from behind to defeat Nairobi Prisons 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-20,25-14). DCI, who had defeated Nairobi Prisons 3-1 on Friday advanced to the semifinals, where they will face reigning champions KCB.
