KPA warns public over fake CEO accounts
Kenya Ports Authority has warned the public about fake accounts that impersonate its Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William Ruto. The authority posted a clear alert on its official X account on Sunday.
“We wish to warn the public of the fake profile impersonating our Chief Executive Officer Capt. William Ruto,” KPA said in a statement.
It added that Capt. Ruto does not run any personal social media accounts. People should ignore any such profiles they come across.
The post continued:
“Kindly note that Capt. Ruto does not operate any social media account and such accounts should be disregarded.”
For any official messages from the CEO, the public must use only the verified KPA channels. These include the authority’s Facebook page, its X handle, Instagram account, and LinkedIn page.

Scammers exploit fake profiles
KPA manages Kenya’s main ports, including Mombasa, Lamu and Kisumu, plus inland container depots. It handles vital trade links for Kenya and the wider East and Central Africa region.
Fraudsters often create fake profiles of senior officials to trick people. They may ask for money, offer fake jobs, or push other scams. The authority has issued similar warnings before about recruitment fraud.
This latest alert comes at a time when many organisations in Kenya fight rising online impersonation. Scammers copy names, photos and titles to look real. They target members of the public who seek business deals, jobs or quick favours. Once they gain trust, they demand payments or personal details.
Capt. William Ruto took over as KPA Managing Director in recent years. He leads efforts to improve port efficiency and support regional trade. The authority stresses that he keeps all official communication on its verified platforms. No personal accounts exist for him on X, Facebook, Instagram or elsewhere. KPA joins other state bodies that now act quickly to flag impersonators.
