Kenya’s football stars assemble for Africa Beach Games in Tunisia
Bandari FC captain Michael Wanyika and Simba Queens midfielder Corazon Adhiambo are among Team Kenya’s squad players (men and women) that are currently training for the Africa Beach Games that start today to June 30 in Tunisia.
Kenya’s teams, dubbed ‘Harambee Sand’ and ‘Harambee Sands Starlets’, who have been training in Malindi since June 12, are aiming for records after players (men and women) in both the Kenya Premiere League and the national team showed interest in the barefoot sand football.
Kenya’s men’s football team made their debut at the continental showcase in the first edition held in Sal, Cape Verde, in 2019 where they finished fifth while Kenya’s women’s team will be making their debut in Tunisia this year.
In their group, Kenya will have to tackle current African beach soccer champions Senegal. They will later square it out with Madagascar and then face neighbours Tanzania.
The women’s team will play a two-legged tie against Cape Verde on June 28 then finish it up the following day with the same opponents.
In the men’s team, Kenya Premier League side Bandari Fc captain Wanyika is joined by former teammate Wilberforce Lugogo who also played for the Dockers.
