Litmus test for Kenya
Kenya will need to ask more from themselves ahead of the semifinals keeping in mind that both the girls’ and boys’ teams lost to Rwanda in the preliminary rounds.
The boys fell to Rwanda 81-52 in the opening round while the girls also stumbled in a 56-47 loss to the same opponents at the Lugogo Arena.
Both teams would emerge winners over Tanzania, the boys narrowly winning 95-81 while the ladies registered a 57-47 scoreline in their only win of the preliminary round.
Uganda, who are unbeaten so far would condemn Kenya to 97-47 and 86-56 in the girls and boy’s category respectively.
A dominant Uganda boys’ side managed to put a century past Tanzania, winning 103-48 while making light work of Rwanda in a 78-49 win at the same venue.
The tournament was played in a round-robin format, where the top-seeded team will then play the bottom team while the second team faces off with the fourth-placed team in fixtures that will determine the finalists.
The winners from both categories will represent the region at the FIBA U18 Championships in Johannesburg in August.
