Kenya National Police Service successfully defending the cross-country title on day two of the third edition of Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) Games at Kenyatta University rugby grounds yesterday.

In the senior men’s and women’s 10km cross-country, Joseph Kiptum (27:53.9) led a Kenyan 1-2 as Philemon Maritim (27:43.7) finished second with Moses Kurong (28:42.8) of Uganda third.

Kiptum, Maritim and Kurong stayed neck-and-neck in a pulsating battle before Kiptum dropped the rest in the final lap.

“I was confident of victory because one, I had prepared well and two, the master of the race Geoffrey Kamworor was not running today,” said Kiptum.

In the women’s race, reigning Kenya Police cross-country champion Stacy Ndiwa (31:71.4) led a Kenyan sweep of the podium as Jackline Cherotich (31:99.6) in second and third-placed Janet Kiss (32:01.3) joined her.

In handball, defending champions Rwanda defeated hosts Kenya 32-26 in a match played at the Kasarani indoor arena.

EAPCCO is a regional law enforcement body, bringing together 14 member countries. 

Founded in 1998, the body was established as a regional practical response to the need of  joining police efforts against transnational and organised crime.
