Kenya amputee team name final squad for continental tournament

Kenya national amputee team has released the final 18 man squad to take part in the Amputee Football African Cup of Nations ( AAFCON) slated for Cairo from April 18 to 26, a tournament that will also serve as a World Amputee Football Federation ( WAFF) World cup 2026 Qualifier.
Speaking in Nairobi at the team’s training camp at Parklands Sports Club, head coach Dalmas Otieno was confident that Kenya will do well and qualify for the world cup after previously doing so in 2014 and 2018 when both global events were staged in Mexico.
“ It’s not a strange stage to us, we have been here before and done well. We just need to support our players and make sure that their welfare is well taken care of and I promise you that these guys will come back home with medals” said Dalmas, a former national team and professional amputee football player who retired two years ago before going into coaching.
Otieno, assisted by Wycliffe Opondo and Francis Ocholla who is training the goalkeepers have selected two custodians led by Ferdinand Obi from Kitale Amp FC and Washington Pancras from Mombasa to guard the posts.
Brian Oroka who just came back from Greece to rejoin Nairobi FC for the remainder of the season, will lead the defenders together with club teammates Sammy Ochieng, Peter Nzioka and Chris Okongo as Joash Bariti from Kakamega, Joseph Maamis from Laikipia and Nicholas Keiyo are the other back liners.
Elsewhere, Kabete FC who are currently holding pole position in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kisumu County league with 22 points were held to a 1-1 by Oseng as Chemelil Youth registered a barren draw against Kombewa to move to second position on 20 points.
Peter Oguya scored the opener for Oseng in the 62nd minute with Austine Otieno levelling for Kabete in the 70th minute. And, Chemelil Youth chalked a barren draw at Chemelil Sugar Sports Complex during the tightly contested clash over the weekend as Winam FC thrashed Ogango 4-1 in other FKF Kisumu County league fixtures.
Ogango stunned Winam FC with an early ice-breaker in the 3rd minute, before the ruffled hosts recovered poise to net a double through Levin Odero in the 22nd and 28th minutes, respectively. Winam’s other goals were scored by Elvis Burundi in the 43rd minute, while teammate Tony Gogah wrapped the scores in the 75th minute.
During other Zone C matches played elsewhere across the county, Leyland pipped Usoma 1-0 with Lameck Ochieng scoring the all-important goal for the victors as Akado FC narrowly beat Obugi 3-2.
Franklin Otieno , Rodgers Ochieng and Richard Mboya scored for Akado in the 6th minute, 52nd and 3 minutes after regular time, respectively with Vincent Rajoro and Damuel Otieno replied foe Obugi in the 55th and 79th minute of regular time.
