KCB picked up a dominant 4-1 victory over Nairobi City Stars in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League early kick-off at Kasarani Annex on October 29, 2023.

The win propelled Bernard Mwalala’s side to third place on the Premier League table, although they had to finish the match with fewer men after Danson Namasaka was red-carded.

Goals

Meanwhile, the Bankers were dominant from the start and opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Nicholas Kipkirui found the back of the net.

The former Zoo FC and Gor Mahia forward planted the ball into the net with a powerful header, which he managed after connecting to a ball delivered from a corner kick.

KCB grabbed their second goal in the 18th minute, with Haniff Wesonga being the scorer this time around.

Kelvin Etemesi, who was the subject of intense transfer rumours before the season began, scored the only goal for City Stars at the half-hour mark.

The equalizer, however, did not give Simba wa Nairobi the needed impetus as the Bankers came back from the halftime break with more determination.

They scored the third goal in the 57th minute through Francis Kahiro before Mwalala made changes as he brought on James Mazembe and Namasaka to replace Kahiro and Derrick Otieno.

Mwalala’s substitutions

The changes produced what was desired, as Namasaka scored the fourth goal in the 72nd minute to all but end City Stars’ hopes of making a comeback. Namasaka, however, did not last long after finding the back of the net, as he was sent off following his second yellow card for a bookable offence.

KCB, with the big win, moved closer to Gor Mahia, as they are now third with 15 points. K’Ogalo are second with 16 points and failed to close in on Posta Ranges after they were held to a goalless draw by Bidco United on Saturday.

The Bankers will now train their eyes on struggling Sofapaka, whom they will meet on Wednesday during a mid-week clash.
