Kaplong Boys dominates Sotik Sub-County
Kaplong Boys High School dominated Sotik Sub-county secondary schools term two ‘B’ games after they bagged football, basketball 3×3 and racquet games as the competition came to an end at Kaplong Primary School playground in Bomet County, at the weekend.
The school narrowly lost in volleyball and 7-aside rugby after they were in the runners-up position.
In football, the champions were overstretched before eliminating minnows Chebirbelek 2-1 to stamp authority in the game.
Cheered on by home fans including the chief principal Mike Yator, Kaplong Boys opened the scoring via their prolific striker Dennis Mogaka after heading home following a cross from Benedict Bett in the 25th minute, before Eric Kipronoh equalized ten minutes later.
On resumption, the home team continued to pile more pressure and came as no surprise as Dennis Mogaka, who was on the mark again, completed a brace after he was put through by Captain Jackson Saitoti a few minutes before normal time.
Kaplong Boys booked a ticket to finals after beating Kapchemibei 4-1 while Chebirbelek sent off former giants Chebilat 2-0 in the other encounter.
In Basketball 3×3, the host school topped the discipline after collecting a maximum of six points in a round-robin game. They beat Chebilat 21-2 in the first game before winding up the tournament with a 16-4 win over Moi Minariet.
In the indoor games, the school will send five students from table tennis, 6 players in badminton and two students from lawn tennis to the county games after emerging victorious.
In the boys’ volleyball, the hard-fighting Kaplong Boys fell to their neighbours Kapcholyo High School 3-1(25-17, 19-25, 25-16&27-25) in one of the toughest finals in the tournament.
Kapcholyo qualified for finals when they hammered Chebirbelek 3-0 while Kaplong Boys defeated Kamungei 3-1 in the other match.
Yator lauded the two teams for displaying high skills in the game saying that the move the level of the game has gone up.
“Even though I lost the title to Kapcholyo, the team was good and they portrayed that during the start of the game. I am happy that the two teams maintain discipline throughout the tournament,” said Yator.
In rugby, four times champion Kapletundo made their intentions clear after they whitewashed Kamungei 7-0 in a one-sided tie.
A penalty try by Kevin Kipkoech after a scrum down at the 10-metre line was enough to send the champions to the next level of the competition slated for this week at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Chebonei Girls High School successfully defended their football title after they drubbed Ndarawetta Girls secondary school
