Kabras Sugar, KCB, and Nondescripts have learned their preliminary rivals after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) released the pools for Kabeberi 7s.

There is expected to be a spectacle during the two-day event that will be held on RFUEA grounds, given that there are tricky fixtures lined up for Saturday, September 9, and Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Kabeberi 7s pools

Kabras Sugar, who were stunned in the Tisap 7s in Eldoret, are set to battle it out with Mwamba, MMUST, and Daystar in Pool C. The Sugar Millers are the circuit leaders and will hope to have a successful outing in order to win the overall title.

Nondies, the surprise winners of Tisap 7s, are in Pool A alongside Blak Blad, Kenya Harlequin, and Tessen Warriors. In Pool B, Strathmore Leons, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Impala are rivals.

KCB, who also flopped at Tisap 7s, are in Pool D alongside Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks, and Moi Arsonists.

Going into the final leg of the national circuit, there is only one point between Kabras Sugar and their rivals, KCB, as the former has 92 points compared to the Bankers’ 91.

Strathmore Leons also have a distant chance to win the overall title, given that they are third with 82 points.

Title chances

Kabras can emerge as winners of the circuit if they simply finish the tournament ahead of KCB in the knockout phase of the tournament. Should the Sugar Millers manage to do so, it will be their first circuit title in six years.

The Bankers’ chances of emerging as the overall winner lie in the fact that they must reach the cup semis and hope their bitter rivals, Kabras, fall in the cup quarterfinals.

Third-placed Leos can place their hands on the title if they reach the cup final and hope Kabras and Sugar all fail to progress to the quarterfinals. If they do so, it will be their first circuit title since 2009.

Strathmore Leos can claim their first title since 2009 if they reach the cup final and Kabras and KCB fail to make the quarterfinals.
