Kenyan prospect Tyler Onyango has returned to Stockport County on a season-long loan from Everton.

According to a statement from Everton and Stockport County released on Monday, September 1, 2025, the 22-year-old midfielder, who is eligible to represent both Kenya and England, rejoins the League One side for a second spell after a previous loan was cut short due to injury.

Onyango first joined Stockport County during the first half of last season, making ten appearances before a November injury in a win over Forest Green Rovers forced him to return to Everton for treatment. Despite the setback, Onyango impressed County’s coaching staff, particularly with a dominant performance in a 4-1 win against Reading, which manager Dave Challinor described as one of the best individual displays he had seen.

Since returning to Everton in January, Onyango has been steadily recovering from the long-term injury, featuring for the club’s Under-21 side. He also participated in the early stages of pre-season training with Stockport at Carrington and in Pinatar before reporting back to Everton for their USA tour.

During the summer, Onyango even made a notable appearance in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in a preseason match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, showing his versatility and composure in midfield.

Onyango welcomed back enthusiastically

Stockport County CEO Simon Wilson welcomed Onyango back.

“We are delighted to welcome Tyler back to the club. Everton have needed him with their first team, which is terrific experience he can bring into his time with us. He is a versatile player and can contribute to the team in several ways. Last time, his loan was cut short, but we all saw his potential,” the CEO said.

Manager Dave Challinor added:

“We’re thrilled to have Tyler back. Since pre-season, we’ve wanted him with us. Hopefully, he can pick up where he left off. His athleticism, pace, power, and ability to play in multiple positions will be invaluable. He already knows us and our style of play.”

Tyler Onyango is an Everton academy graduate, having joined the club at eight years old. He has previously had loan spells at Burton Albion and Forest Green Rovers, alongside his earlier stint with Stockport. Onyango has also made five substitute appearances for Everton’s senior team and remains a player to watch for both club and country, with his Kenyan heritage making him a potential future Harambee Stars star.

Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy confirmed that Tyler Onyango has been contacted regarding a potential call-up to the national team. Speaking on Monday, September 1, 2025, McCarthy said Everton and Onyango’s family had expressed interest in him representing Kenya, but the timing was not ideal ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Seychelles.
