Kenya’s Harambee Stars have been making the nation proud at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), and the rewards for their hard work keep growing. President William Ruto announced on Monday, August 11, 2025, that if the team beats Zambia in their next match on Sunday, each player will receive Ksh2.5 million.

This announcement comes after a series of generous rewards the team has already earned for their impressive performances. So far, the Harambee Stars have received Ksh1 million each for their win against DR Congo, Ksh500,000 each after a draw with Angola, and another Ksh1 million per player following their recent 1-0 victory over Morocco.

“We’ve also agreed on rewards: A win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player Ksh2.5 million,” President Ruto posted on his X account.

He also praised the team and stressed the importance of unity in Kenya’s success.

“Unity has always propelled us forward. We must never allow negativity, failure, or doubt to prevent us from reaching our full potential. If we believe in ourselves and refuse to let division or hate enter the equation, Kenya can become the great nation we all dream of,” he said.

He went on to highlight how the Harambee Stars exemplify the power of unity.

“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. They have brought the country together and we are all witnessing the success it is bringing to the nation. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach.”

President Ruto also spoke directly to the players, sharing words of encouragement in Kiswahili:

“Tayari, niko na maneno yenu ya jana. Mnacheza kama nyinyi, mimi nacheza kama nyinyi, tunasonga tukisonga. Sasa Sunday nataka tukuwe na deal mpya, ya Sunday. Sasa Sunday si tunashinda? Sasa, vile tulifanya ile hesabu siku ile, sasa mnajua, wacha niwakumbushe, nimeongeza kidogo, sasa, Sunday tukishinda hivi, kila mtu 2.5 million. Hata hawa watu wa bench. Si tukishinda tume qualify, sasa hapo kwa quarters, tukishinda quarters, sasa juu ya one million nitaongeza ile mmeomba, si mmesema mnataka affordable house?”

Quarter-finals rewards announced

Ruto also revealed that if the team wins in the quarter-finals, each player will receive an additional Ksh1 million plus a two-bedroom affordable house in a location of their choice, a huge incentive for the players to keep fighting hard.

Earlier, multitalented musician Bahati also showed his support by promising Ksh1 million in cash to be given directly to the players if they beat Morocco, showing how the team’s success has united Kenyans from all walks of life.
