Harambee Stars midfielder Teddy Akumu joins Lebanon’s Nejmeh SC
By Kenneth Mwenda, August 30, 2025Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony “Teddy” Akumu has completed a move to Lebanese Premier League side Nejmeh SC, the club officially announced on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
In a statement posted on their official channels, Nejmeh described the Kenyan international as a seasoned midfielder with vast experience across top leagues in Africa and Asia.
“From the powerful stadiums of South Africa to Japan’s J1 League, and through to the Iranian Pro League, today a new chapter begins with Star Sports Club. Let’s welcome our new midfielder, our player Teddy,” the club posted.
Akumu, 32, has enjoyed a career spanning over a decade, playing for Gor Mahia, Al Khartoum in Sudan, ZESCO United in Zambia, Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, Japan’s Sagan Tosu, and most recently, Kheybar Khorramabad in Iran. He has also featured in numerous African club championship matches, including appearances in the CAF Champions League.

Akumu’s Lebanese Premier League move
Internationally, Akumu remains one of Kenya’s most experienced midfielders. Since making his debut for Harambee Stars in 2011. He was part of the squad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and has been a consistent figure whenever called upon to represent his country.
Earlier this year, Akumu confirmed he would not be renewing his contract with Kheybar Khorramabad, stating that his focus was on finding a new challenge outside Iran. While back in Nairobi, he maintained fitness by training with the national team as he weighed his options. His move to Nejmeh marks the latest chapter in a career defined by persistence and adaptability.
Beyond the pitch, Akumu has also been active off it. In September 2024, he signed with World Media Family’s Next-Generation Media Management Agency, joining a roster that includes former Newcastle United winger Gaël Kakuta and several other top professionals. The agency has been managing his digital presence, producing content ranging from motivational videos to match-day posters.
For Nejmeh SC, Akumu’s signing is a significant reinforcement as the Lebanese giants look to strengthen their midfield ahead of a demanding season in both domestic and continental competitions.
