The government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating doping and age cheating in a bid to uphold Kenya’s reputation in global sports.

Speaking at the National Cross Country Championships in Eldoret, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya emphasised that both legends and active athletes have demonstrated patriotism and integrity towards the country.

  “They have shown tremendous loyalty and honesty. I urge athletes to maintain this integrity, and as the government, we will ensure that doping is eradicated, enabling our athletes to perform and win internationally without any issues,” Mvurya stated.

  He similarly acknowledged the ongoing issue of age manipulation, stressing the need for its elimination to preserve Kenya’s standing as a global athletics leader.

  Mvurya added that the competition at the National Cross Country was a clear reflection of Kenya’s growing talent and commitment to maintaining its dominance in athletics.

  The government, he noted, would continue supporting federations and nurturing talent through more holiday training camps, with notable emerging athletes like Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Purity Chepkurui shining on the international stage.
