Gor Mahia‘s goalkeeper Kevin Omondi is on the brink of matching the impressive clean sheet record that earned his predecessor, Gad Mathews, the Golden Glove in the previous season.

During Gor Mahia’s journey to their 20th FKF Premier League triumph, Mathews boasted 17 clean sheets. Omondi came in as a backup before ascending to the first team due to Mathews’ injury.

Gor Mahia’s rise

Despite some initial doubts from Gor Mahia fans regarding Omondi’s performance, he has steadily improved.

Currently, he sits just two clean sheets shy of equaling Mathews’ previous record, which secured him the Golden Glove award.

Omondi, a former player from Kakamega School, has now maintained 15 clean sheets in his first 22 matches for Gor Mahia.

He holds a four-point lead over experienced keepers Patrick Matasi from Kenya Police and John Njau from Posta Rangers, both of whom have recorded 11 clean sheets.

Gor Mahia’s lead

In the goal-scoring department, Benson Omala of Gor Mahia maintains his lead in the FKF Premier League after 22 rounds.

Omala broke a seven-match goal drought by scoring a crucial goal in Gor Mahia’s 1-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars. This marked his 10th goal of the season, following a failed potential loan deal with Saoura.

With this victory, Gor Mahia amassed 47 points, comprising 13 wins, eight draws, and one loss this season. Francis Kahiro, recently transferred from KCB to Bandari FC, and Tito Okello from Kenya Police are tied for second place with eight goals each.

Vincent Owino from Nairobi City Stars follows closely with seven goals, while Moses Shummah from Kakamega Homeboyz, Boniface Muchiri from Ulinzi Stars, Eric Kapaito from Tusker, and Jacob Onyango from Sofapaka all have six goals each.
